Changing the Dynamic Between Dogs & Their Humans
|
I know there are a lot of dog trainers in the Phoenix/Prescott/Flagstaff/Scottsdale/East Valley Arizona areas so thank you for following your internet search to my dog training site! My name is Karen Harrell and I started Dynamic Dog Training AZ in 2014. I've been very successful with the hundreds of dogs I've trained; all breeds, all ages, all sizes. I change dogs' lives in an amazing environment, empower owners, and really love doing it. I'm very honest and transparent and I won't make you unrealistic promises. |
Riggs was a 1.5 yr old super hyper yellow lab that was out of his mind when he arrived for his two week board & train! He put a strain on the family dynamic and spent a lot of time in the crate which was the only way they could find peace in their house. With state of mind training, obedience training and low level e collar training, he became the calm family dog that his family had hoped for (and wondered if was even possible). They kept up with my post training plan and he is now included in all of the family activities and goes camping off leash! Prescott Prescott valley dewey

In almost all cases, a dogs behavior is a reflection of your behavior. Poor behavior in your dog usually occurs when there is too much of anything--too much freedom to make their own choices; too much love and affection given at the wrong time; too much play time; too much inactivity. More balance is needed. Balance comes from establishing more rules and holding the dog accountable for those rules. Now the dog is actually earning the praise and earning the love and affection. In balanced dog training, praise is given for the dog successfully completing a command and a correction is given for not completing a command, AFTER the dog knows the command. Done correctly, corrections are not done with dominance, yelling or a punishing mindset. (Yes, even prong collars and e collars can deliver mild, low level corrections.) Dogs of all breeds, sizes and ages will have success with balanced dog obedience training. The age of the dog, the severity of the issue and the current state of your relationship with the dog will help me give you guidance as to post-training expectations. If you read my blog post No Magic in Dog Training, you will see that the task at hand for you after the dog's rehabilitation is keeping up with the training and building a new dynamic between you and the dog. Of course, I teach you how to do that and am here to back you up for the life of the dog!

With balanced dog training, obedience is just a gateway to where the real power lies: a dogs STATE OF MIND. Changing a dogs state of mind often takes care of most issues you may be having and allows for the dog to begin learning and then make good choices. I also need to work on your state of mind! If your dog is stressed, anxious or aggressive, it will cause you to be those things as well. A stressed and anxious human cannot rehabilitate a stressed and anxious dog. I want to empower you to lead your dog to a calm state of mind and maintain a balanced relationship with them.
With that foundation, structure and leadership in place, you should have less naughtiness and higher expectations of your dog! Expect a calm, obedient family dog that doesn't get on your kitchen counters or steal your food, go through your garbage, jump on or nip at you or guests, bark or lunge at other people or dogs, destroy your furniture or sprinkler system, protect their food or toys by showing their teeth at you, constantly bark, bolt out of your front door or side gate, or overall, act entitled or bratty!
A lot of solid foundational work can be done with a simple leash and collar and a lot of practice and consistence. The real magic in dog training happens with the use of low-level e collar training which is done on every dog in my board and train program. There is a lot of misunderstanding of e collars and how they are used today. Please read more of this on my Trust Talk page. Proper e collar training can build a dogs self esteem, curb anxious and stressful behaviors, create calmness and obedience and allow you to communicate with your dog, off leash, up to a half mile away! A properly trained dog with a healthy state of mind can enjoy off leash freedom while a properly trained human can enjoy the confidence of knowing he will recall back to you! And yes, you can and SHOULD use e collar on a fearful or nervous dog! It is the BEST and fastest way to increase their confidence.

Conan, day 10 of a two week board and train. He came to me super insecure, jumpy, non trusting with no obedience. Here he stays focused on me, calm and obedient. He did great even with landscapers and sprinklers as distractions.

This was Lulu the rottweiler getting picked up at the end of her two week obedience board and train. Here she was a 6 months old puppy with a new calmness, focus and a solid recall.
