Obedience Training For Dogs & Puppies in Phoenix AZ
My name is Karen Harrell and my goal as a dog trainer is to provide you, your dog, your family, and your house with calmness, structure and happiness instead of feeling like your dog is running you and the house and the frustration, stress and yelling that comes with it. My style of dog obedience training empowers men, women and children to be the best owners they can be to bring out the best in the family dog. I train most types of severe behaviors: anxiety and nervousness, poor leash behaviors, and reactivity to dogs and humans; to mild behaviors such as counter surfing, digging and jumping on people, to name a few. E collar training is my specialty and my passion because it will literally change your life!
What’s the youngest my dog can come for boarding and training?
5 months old, IF your dog is crate trained to sleep 8 hours at night.
Most puppy vaccinations are completed by the veterinarian at 4 months old. I require parvo, rabies and Bordetella vaccinations. Most normal immune responses take approximately 2 weeks to work. Therefore, the puppy isn’t fully protected until two weeks after the vaccinations are given.
What are the benefits to starting so young?
I know it’s hard, but handing over your puppy for training is the ABSOLUTE best way to have a puppy that is balanced, happy and obedient. By having a professional guide your puppy and then you through the puppy raising process, you are less likely to have behavioral issues other than typical puppy behaviors. Of course, you will have to stick to the puppy raising plan that I give you and also understand that at this young age, there is still a lot for the puppy to learn and impulse control to keep improving. Training at this age (or any age, really), never means you are “done” training. This provides a super solid foundation for you to keep building on. Prevention vs. rehabilitation!
Socializing your puppy is crucial to future dog-to-dog interactions. I can’t think of a better way to socialize your puppy than with safe, balanced dogs and a trainer that can teach proper play behaviors while the play is happening! I personally have three awesome dogs for your puppy to socialize with; Dexter and Tuesday my Rottweiler's and Hurley, my little Jack Russell mix. I often have past clients boarding their dogs as well and if those dogs are a good fit with your puppy, I will socialize them. I also teach your puppy how to be calm when other dogs are around.
Will my puppy forget who I am?
I have NEVER had a young puppy forget their owners, or any dog for that matter. Also, your puppy will not think you’ve abandoned it. Quite the opposite really. They have a blast at training! The minute you leave my house we start training and I very rarely have any whining or separation anxiety in that moment.
Some people are afraid that if they don’t do the training themselves, they will miss out on bonding time and the puppy won’t respect and listen to them. Again, this is false and quite the opposite. You will build a stronger bond with your puppy after this type of training because your puppy now knows his place in the world, he understands the tools you will be using, he’s calm and can now continue to learn and his foundation is there. At the pick up session, together we remove me out of the leadership role and process it over to you. I teach you how to continue building that bond. But now, the bond is based on mutual respect rather than craziness and the frustration that comes from it!
Can I use a e collar on a 5 month old?
Yes! And you should! Low level e collar training is AMAZING for helping you communicate effectively with your puppy! Imagine being able to push a button every time he goes to chew a shoe, jump on your glass back door, mouth your hand, jump on a guest, get his attention for a fast recall, take him hiking or camping off leash! The uses are endless and will change your life and your puppy’s life forever!
